I am a physician and surgeon, in Alexandria, and also a patient of Drs. Weiping  Peng and Yong Chen.

When I was eighteen years old, I was in a car accident wherein my neck and right shoulder took  the majority of the stress on the forward impact.  Like most 18 year olds do, I recovered quickly, or at least I thought I did, after 6-8 doctor visits and exercise.

Throughout college and medical school, I was plagued with repetitive neck  and headaches, which I believed to be due to excessive studying, stress, and strain.
During residency, and into my first three years of private practice, I realized that I have a chronic problem with a tendency to absorb stress on the right side of my neck, and into the shoulder  region.  I tried to ward off headaches and trigger points by performing daily stretches and by staying healthy - getting enough sleep, eating enough, and drinking enough water.

Clearly, this was not enough: at least once a month, I endured burning pain at trigger points and headache with resultant nausea.  I relied on old stand bys  of over the counter pain relief.  However, once I am at work, and don't have an opportunity to rest, take a quiet moment, or especially if I am in surgery, this pain would escalate to the point at which I canceled  Friday night plans to lie on my living room floor, with my ice pack, without an appetite, wondering, "Why does a 36 year-old, who has no "real medical problems", have to experience such a thing?"

That's when I turned to the Sports Injury Therapy Clinic.

I was referred by a patient of mine, who highly recommended Drs. Weiping Peng and Yong Chen.  I started treatment in April of 2003 with the ultimate goal of pain relief so as to start a weight lifting program to strengthen my upper body.  With increased strength, I knew I would be better equipped to endure the strain in both my clinical and surgery setting.  After seven visits, I was lifting light to moderate weights, building muscle, and regularly doing the stretches taught by Dr. Weiping Peng.

I was PAIN FREE!  Now, this may not seem significant  but I  was having headache, neck and shoulder pain at least twice a week for a very long time, despite having chiropractic and mainstream medicine, massage therapy, and pills, which I didn't like taking.  I was even treated for migraines, which I knew were a result of my escalating neck and shoulder pain.   For four months after my treatment with Dr. Ping, I slept without pain and woke without pain.  I continued to exercise and strengthen myself, without pain.  I feel younger, and, truly, a bit like a different person.

Whenever I "overdo it" I return to Dr. Peng.  Often I get relief in one treatment.  I now try to go once a month, or once every six weeks, as part of a maintenance program.  I've learned that when I put it off, there comes a day of reckoning when things combine on any specific day and I will find myself again, canceling plans.   I am so grateful for their willingness to make time for me at those times when I need it most. They always made themselves available.

Additionally, I trust Drs. Peng and Chen.  They truly relate to their patients, understanding,  as I do that pain is real, even when tests are negative.  They are both sympathetic and gentle.

I feel very lucky to have found the Clinic and never hesitate to recommend   patients, colleagues and family and friends. In the long term, I have been  happier and healthier, and rarely have that "depressed" feeling which so often accompanies  pain.  My family and friends thank The Sports Injury Therapy Clinic too, as they see that I have finally found some relief!

I, absolutely without qualification, recommend the Clinic, to anyone who "hasn't yet found an answer".
